Abyss is a TV picture setting that creates extremely deep blacks and very high contrast.
It works by lowering brightness in dark areas while keeping highlights sharp, giving the image a dramatic, cinema-like effect.
This mode is useful when watching movies in a dark room, but in bright Kenyan living rooms it may hide some details in the shadows.
Some premium TVs brand their black-level technology as “Abyss” to highlight how close the blacks look to true darkness.
